With the study of the new e-Crafter at the IAA Commercial Vehicles, Volkswagen presents a concept for the emission-free inner-city freight traffic.
The electric drive was already planned as a drive variant with the Crafter’s very first design data, as chairman of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Dr. Eckhard Scholz, explains the concept’s prompt realisation: "The first e-Crafter will be in the hands of clients as soon as 2017."
The study still offers robust interior value, like maximum payload, a loading capacity of 11.3 cubic meters, and a maximum cargo area height of 1,961 millimeters. A loading width of 1,380 mm between the wheel cases and a maximum loading-area length of 4,855 mm are available – meaning no changes in package dimensions. The maximum load amounts to 1,709 kilograms.
Electric drive offers 200 kilometer range
The 100 kilowatt electric drive accelarates the driveable study with a permissible total weight of 4.2 tons up to the allowed maximum speed of 80 km/h. As a result, journeys on urban motorways as well as overland tours are no problem. The battery pack, consisting of 312 cells with a total capacity of 43 kilowatt hours, is placed beneath the loading floor. The hold capacity remains unchanged. Depending on vehicle design, the battery unit enables a range of more than 200 kilometers. With the quick-charge function, the batteries are charged back up to 80% after only 45 minutes.
