Great reception for IAA visitors

There are days, when everything just runs smoothly. The first IAA day open to the public definitely was such a day. The manufacturers Iveco and Scania gave the public a great reception, Iveco especially by mustering state secretary Rainer Bomba from the Federal Ministry of Transport. Because Matthias Strehl, managing director of Meyer Logistik from Friedrichsdorf, ordered vehicles with promising alternative drives from the two manufacturers, which they wanted to make public accordingly. In the case of Iveco it was 20 Stralis, powered by liquid natural gas LNG. In the case of Scania, it was two hybrid trucks, which combine diesel- with electric drives for the last mile. The culmination of the evening was provided by fuel card service provider DKV Euro-Service: The service provider honored the company Ludwig Meyer with this year's Eco Performance Award in the category "small and middle-sized companies". It rewards the dedication of transport and logistics companies for sustainability. In the category "large companies", the prize went to Berlin City Cleaning. Special awards were given to Berger Logistik from Tyrol and for the Deutsche Post. For them, the jury initiated a new distinction, the Eco Honour Award. It recognizes the Bonn concern’s dedication to electric mobility. The Post for example has been manufacturing electric delivery vans for their own delivery fleet through their subsidiary Streetscooter for years.

Investments in alternative mobility solutions

For Meyer Logistik’s managing director Strehl, it was a special prize. Visibly proud and touched, Strehl accepted the award, attached to which is 10,000 euros in prize money. "Today is an incredibly amazing day", he said. Earlier, jury chairman Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Stölzle, proprietor of the chair for logistics management at the University Sankt Gallen, explained that the award for Meyer Logistik is also a kind of leap of faith. Meyer Logistik takes on an exemplary function to animate the industry to invest even more into alternative mobility solutions. Strehl also promised: "We will never become tired of investing in new technologies." The service provider, specialized in fresh food logistics, employs 1,800 employees at 95 locations and run their own fleet of 1,200 vehicles. The company delivers 5,000 stores every day, and moves 84,000 roller containers. Seven years ago, the first natural gas trucks joined the fleet, of which there are 15 at the moment. In addition to this are two fully electrically powered delivery trucks in transit in Berlin for the food retail trade, which were showed at the IAA Commercial Vehicles for the first time two years ago. The fleet, moved by alternative power solutions, is completed by the recently ordered 20 LNG-Stralis and the two Scania hybrid trucks.
