Vehicle manufacturer Daimler rebuffs the criticism that the automotive industry isn’t making an effort towards climate- and environment protection. "The opposite is the case", emphasizes managing director of commercial vehicles Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard on Thursday in front of journalists at the IAA in Hannover. He points out the consumption measurements of the commercial vehicle specialist title lastauto omnibus, which tested a 1996 SK against a 2016 Actros on their test track. The vehicles drove around the 272 kilometer track in Rhineland-Palatinate six times – with the same tyres, trailers and 40 tons total weight. Even the drivers were switched during the drives, to facilitate identical test conditions. The result was a significant progress in fuel consumption. Where the SK consumed 41 liters, the Actros made do with 32 liters over 100 kilometers – a reduction of 22 percent within 20 years. "The accusation that the industry hasn’t done enough for the environment in the past years is wrong", Bernhard emphasized. The detailed test can be looked up in the lastauto omnibus published today.
