The upcoming IAA Commercial Vehicles September 22 - 29, 2016 in Hannover could be the most successful trade fair of all time.
The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) is attributing this to the booked space. “The number of registrations is very high”, said Matthias Wissmann, VDA President, to journalists in Frankfurt on Thursday. “The trade fair is dominated by enormous innovations and its great internationality”, Wissmann explained, with regard to the exhibition and its motto “driven by ideas”.
According to Wissmann, one of the most important key topics will be vehicle networking, which could result in additional potential regarding the further reduction of fuel and the avoidance of CO2 emissions. Wissmann referred to the platooning rally of car manufacturers some weeks ago, which showed what is already technically feasible today. “Through driving in a platoon, you can reduce fuel and CO2 emissions by 10%”, Wissmann explained. Regarding the objectives for environmental and climate protection, he finds it generally important not only to consider the engine and the towing vehicle but also all components and participants involved in the logistical process.
Another contribution to reduce CO2 emissions could be the long truck. “You can reduce CO2 emissions by 25% per transported ton”, said Wissmann. He actively promotes the transition from the field tests, running since 2012, to application of the technology in regular operation.
Through its umbrella organization, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), the VDA supports the integrated approach, with which CO2 emissions could be reduced by 3.5%, if all participants pull together.
