Iveco introduces the New Stralis, which shows a whole series of improvements at the International Automobile Fair IAA.

With two new versions Stralis XP and NP, Iveco (hall 16, booth A01) has already introduced the New Stralis in May 2016. The XP version is a consumption-optimized trailer for long distance traffic, the NP is a tractor with 400 PS (1,700 Newton meters) with a strong gas engine (CNG or LNG) and a range of 1,500 kilometers. The 8.7 litre six-cylinder with a twelve-stage gearbox from ZF is now in use. The Stralis NP’s engine and automatic transmission are a perfect match.

The New Stralis offers many improvements of which are a new drive train with reworked engines (new pistons, less abrasion), new transmissions and a new long (2.47 for 1) drive ratio. A new electronics, a neutral gear switch off, new Energy Tires by Michelin and – finally - a GPS cruise control. Unchanged is the SCR-Only emission control (Iveco calls it Hi-SCR), torques (plus 50 Newton meters) and nominal powers (plus 10 hp) could only in part be increased and the AS Transmission by ZF had to make way for the new Traxon gearbox.

Auxiliary Units for optimized consumption

For the Stralis XP the saving program goes even further: there are demand-driven auxiliary units and a so-called Smart EGR (intelligent exhaust gas recirculation) in use. These are not used for emission control but for consumption optimization. Recovery rate is 5 up to 8 percent.

For part-load range an immediate injection system is used which reduces consumption immensely. For improved engines, Iveco promises consumption reduction by three percent, which could go up to ten percent with Energy-Tires, improved gear units and longer axles. Iveco has also introduced new Eurocargo versions, as e.g. 16 ton-trucks with full air-suspension, a new gas engine that offers 204 hp and a torque of 750 Nm. The engine is operated by CNG. The range of the gas engine is 400 kilometers, noise emissions three decibels lower than diesel engines.
