Daimler’s commercial vehicle chairman Wolfgang Bernhard presents world novelties at the IAA 2016, including the Urban eTruck and eCanter.
The first IAA Commercial Vehicle 2016 press conference turned straight into a firework of innovation. Wolfgang Bernhard, CEO of Daimler Commercial Vehicles, for example drove up in the Mercedes-Benz Urban eTruck.
The Urban eTruck is a three-axle vehicle with 26 tons permissible total weight. As a truck for heavy distribution traffic, the Urban eTruck demonstrates the possibilities of what future connectivity, electric drive, display- and operation technology as well as telematics might look like.
Another world premiere is presented with the new all-electric Fuso eCanter. Sporting a permanent-synchro engine with 185 kW performance and 70 kWh battery capacity, the vehicle is well equipped for daily use. More than 100 kilometers are possible without recharging. The Fuso eCanter’s weight balance: The chassis bearing capacity of the 7.49 ton-vehicle amounts to 4.63 tons for superstructure and load.
The Stuttgart-based company also hit the ground running on the software front. Bernhard thus introduced the Fleetboard Store, which features not only the truck manufacturer’s own applications. Industry partners have also prepared apps for the IAA 2016 – for example Continental, DKV, Palfinger, Schmitz Cargobull, UTA as well as ETM publishing house, to which eurotransport.de belongs.
"The truck data center is the basis for Daimler’s connectivity", said Bernhard. This goes for Fleetboard as well as the American counterpart Detroit Connect. The obtained data shall aid the vehicle operator in preventing downtime. Problems with the vehicle are reported proactively and a shop is notified, all depending on the truck’s route. Consequently, this service is also called Uptime.
