The Zukunftskongress Nutzfahrzeuge (Congress for the Future of Commercial Vehicles) will tackle the digitalisation of the transport industry, as well as new drive technologies – both innovative and conventional. Submissions for presentation and discussion pieces are now being accepted.

Digitalisation, clean drive technology and changes to regulations governing commercial vehicles – regarding sizes, weights and carbon footprints – will all have pronounced and lasting changes on the industry. Demands will become more complex, and this complexity will be reflected by the solutions proffered by the transport industry. The days in which drive technologies defined how efficiently and environmentally friendly a truck may transport goods from A to B are behind us. Increasingly, data and the interpretation thereof define the efficiency of different freight methods. Indeed, the telematics systems of modern-day trucks make them a firm fixture in information systems. The meshing of vehicle, consignment, infrastructure, dispatcher, recipient and haulier will only get tighter. Evaluation of the growing stream of available data from both vehicle and load will aid in making vehicles more efficient, both in terms of their environmental impact and resource usage.

In addition to diesel engines – powered with synthetic fuels – electric engines that source their energy from batteries or fuel cells are of increasing importance. Depending on a vehicle’s intended usage, the range of possible drive solutions will increase manifold. Technological advancement is not the only source of change in the industry. Regulatory frameworks are also constantly being developed and refined. By the end of 2017, we expect to see the implementation of EU Guideline 96/53 in national law. This will update regulations concerning commercial vehicles’ permitted weights and dimensions. The extra provisions for wind-deflecting and safety devices are expected to have a noticeable change on the construction of commercial vehicles. In addition, the German government has recently updated the legal framework surrounding autonomous vehicles. German Minister for Transport Alexander Dobrindt sees Germany as a EU pioneer in this field of law. Intelligently networked active safety systems – made possible by autonomous vehicles – will play a critical role. The purchasing of transport solutions will, as a result, also increase in complexity. Only companies that manage to maintain an overview in this time of disruptive change will be able to succeed in the market.

The Zukunftskongress Nutzfahrzeuge – presented by expert organisation DEKRA together with industry magazine lastauto omnibus– will provide visitors with everything they need to know to successfully navigate this change. and On 7. and 8. November 2017 in Berlin, fleet experts will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of new innovations with brand and OEM representatives, as well as political and industrial figures. The Zukunftskongress Nutzfahrzeuge is the industry’s largest networking event in off-years of the IAA Commercial Vehicles exhibition.

Two thematic pillars – telematics and vehicle technology – will form the backbone of the two-day event, with visitors able to switch between the two core topics at any time. The presenters and panellists of the Zukunftskongress Nutzfahrzeuge will address the topic of vehicle technology in its entire spectrum. Discussion topics will include the newest developments in the active safety sector, as well as stipulations for self-driving commercial vehicles. Also in the spotlight are the topics of efficient, environmentally conscious drivetrains, and the consequences of digitalisation. Both national and international legal experts will explain how the implementation of legal frameworks will advance.
