When the doors of the 66th IAA Commercial Vehicles close today, approximately 250,000 people will have visited the halls. A moderate plus, even though the fair was a day shorter than before. VDA-president Wissmann was delighted.

In the past year, 244,000 visitors came to Hannover. The 66th IAA Commercial Vehicles is therefore, according to Wissmann, the leading commercial vehicle trade fair – not just in Europe, but the whole world. Wissmann was extremely pleased with these numbers. He was particularly happy about the quantity and quality of visitors. The influx was very good, and many business deals were made. The visitors share increased from 84 to 86 percent. Every third visitor came from abroad. These numbers are especially a great success because the trade fair was a day shorter than usual this year.

Motto "Driven by Ideas" fulfilled

Digitization, electric mobility and modern logistics services for urban spaces, or the final mile were the trade fair’s decisive topics. This year’s IAA motto, "Driven by Ideas" was completely fulfilled. With regard to innovations, Wissmann especially highlighted the increase in importance of automated commercial vehicles in the course of digitization. He expects first applications especially in closed-off areas like port areas or mines. But in all the euphoria, the factor safety remains the most important aspect. No "autopilot" is offered before the systems haven’t been thoroughly tested and have proven their safety.

Specialist congress work through digitization and urban logistics

Moreover, the IAA Commercial Vehicles is a large specialist congress. Within the 27 trade events to be found in total was the renowned CarIT-Kongress, a hazardous-goods congress, and the theme days for growth markets like China and India and for the IAA. Wissmann also referred to the Startup-Events, including the 24-hour Hackathon. According to Wissmann, these companies are working on the newest solutions for logistics of the future and, with the vehicle- as well as trailer- and superstructure manufacturers and suppliers, will continue to inspire efficiency in logistics. In total, the organizers counted 4,400 visitors of the specialist program.

Exhibitors’ internationalization continues

VDA-director Klaus Bräunig pointed out the considerable higher significance of omnibuses, the increasing internationalization of exhibitors in this field, and to the fact that the IAA Commercial Vehicles depicts the entire logistics and supply chain of vehicle manufacturing. In total, the share of foreign manufacturers amounted to 61 percent this year. In 2014, it was two percent less. An extremely positive signal is also the increasing number of female visitors, enriching the industry.

In total, more than 2,000 exhibitors presented 332 world- and 100 European debuts.
