Tenneco Solutions to reduce fuel consumption

Less fuel consumption and improved handling are the goals of US technology company Tenneco, which presents its newest solutions within the business divisions gas flue systems and chassis systems at the 66th IAA in Hannover.

This includes for example the system XNOx™’s further development for exhaust gas treatment after the SCR-principle (Selective Catalytic Reduction). "The youngest development of urea-metering system XNOx covers an extended temperature range, so the system can be installed closer to the turbocharger without affecting the dosing capability and performance", the manufacturer informed. The principle "return flow" offers a considerable improvement in thermal stability without additional components.

Furthermore, there is an optional control module with a flexible engine interface which regulates the required DEF dosing rate on the basis of the engine-NOx-emissions in regard to the ammonia storage and the catalyst’s ageing condition. The injector, patented by Tenneco and developed especially for exhaust systems, offers an optimized solution that enables an efficiency of 95 percent for NOx-conversion and thereby helps customers meet strict emission standards without making compromises in engine performance. A further novelty in the exhaust system area is the Euro-6-Plus concept box.

The one-box solution acommodates all required components for the exhaust gas treatment, like DOC, DPF and SCR-converter, as well as the in-house progressive mixing technology. The concept box is furthermore equipped with the newest technologies that support further reduction of NOx-emissions and the requirements for conformity in use (In-Service Conformity, ISC), to which belong temperature management solutions like light metal manifolds and active heating elements to support the NOx-efficiency at low temperatures. The Tenneco-division chassis system is in Hannover with its CVSAe, amongst others - the semi-active chassis system which adjusts the shock absorber’s damping effect continuously to the road conditions and to the vehicle dynamic’s parameters like velocity, curve-driving or driver requests.

The driver can choose between a more comfortable or a more dynamic style of driving. Furthermore, Tenneco presents its Position-Sensitive Twin System (PST). The multistage hydraulic damper offers varied attenuation levels, depending on the piston-position in the damper’s working tube. The PST’s design offers a wide spectrum of parameters for fine-tuning. According to the manufacturer, almost any attenuation curve is possible without there being abrupt transitions of damping power from soft to hard mode. Different damping effects for rebound damping and pressure stage can be chosen on the PST.
