World premiere for the fully electrically driven Mercedes Urban eTruck. With it, Daimler’s truck division demonstrates their vision of transportation of the future.

Goods will reach city centers completely emission-free in the future. That is the vision of transportation of the future of Daimler’s commercial vehicle division. Included is a delivery truck with 26 tons permissible total weight, called Mercedes Urban eTruck, which so far has only been seen as unbuilt chassis in camouflage. On the eve of the IAA, it was finally unveiled. Underneath, the Urban eTruck carries the design language of the remaining current concept vehicles, starting with the Future Truck, which already debuted two years ago, as well as the Future Bus and Vision Van. The special difference to other E-trucks: for one thing, the relative high permissible total weight, as well as the integrated and interconnected powertrain. This interconnection will make practicable ranges possible. For this purpose, the powertrain will match route and battery capacity (total capacity: 212 kilowatt hours) and adapts the driving strategy accordingly. A range of up to 200 kilometers will be possible.

A market launch of the aerodynamically optimized vehicle shall be possible at the beginning of the next decade. Until then, says board member Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, the battery price is expected to drop considerably, namely by the factor 2.5 from 500 euros per kilowatt hour to 200 euros per kilowatt hour. Simultaneously, vehicle power will rise from 80 watt-hours per kilogram to 200 watt-hours per kilogram in the same frame of time.
