A new generation of transport refrigeration units were presented by US manufacturer Carrier Transicold with Ecodrive GenSets.

The unit's power supply is a hydraulic system that powers the generator and provides the unit with electricity. According to the manufacturer, a control unit is integrated, ensuring that the generator produces constant electricity and refrigerating capacity. Advantage of this new unit is the fact that the engine revolutions don't need to be increased while idling in traffic jams. This reduces emissions and maintenance costs, and raises fuel economy. The new technology is moreover PIEK-certified, and also enables night deliveries at a noise level of under 60 decibels (db).

For the Supra and Vector series, Carrier Transicold presented a new generation evaporator for multitemperature units. Four widths from 700 to 2,200 millimeters are offered. According to the manufacturer, the devices contain a new defrost function as well as improved water drainage, which prevents splashes on the load. The devices can be installed in box bodies and trailers without much effort. Quick locks ensure more comfort during repairs and maintenance.

Clean refrigeration is the goal of the Supra-series' new motor vehicle transport refrigeration unit with low-emission package. A particularly clean diesel engine helps reduce particulate emissions up to 50 percent compared to similar diesel engines. With "Silent Option", the Supra transport refrigeration unit is also suitable for night deliveries or deliveries to residential areas. With the additionally available City version, the unit is PIEK-certified for sound emissions of under 60 decibels. Moreover, Carrier presents a prototype with CNG-drive with separate natural gas tank. Through the use of natural gas, the manufacturer promises 95 percent less particulate matter and 70 percent less nitrogen oxide.

For the Supra series (and the low emissions package), the R-452A coolant is used, which possesses a 45 percent less GWP-value (Global Warming Potential) compared to the conventional R-404A. According to the manufacturer, the coolant offers the same refrigerating capacity, fuel efficiency and reliability with the same filling quantity, and is available for the trailer series Vector as well as the van series Pulsor.
