Clear the stage for MAN

MAN is making a big splash at the IAA TRANSPORTATION - from the world premiere of a small series electric truck to the presentation of a prototype with a large-volume hydrogen combustion engine.

A very small vehicle is in the spotlight at MAN: the new eTGL, which is making its world premiere at the IAA TRANSPORTATION. The battery-electric 12-ton truck rounds off the MAN electric truck portfolio for light distribution. It has a payload of up to 6,600 kilograms, can travel up to 235 kilometers in one go and can be recharged in around 30 minutes. MAN sees the eTGL with this package in urban goods logistics for food chains, retailers and the catering industry, among other things. Comparatively low range requirements, the possibility of depot charging at logistics locations and increasing noise and emissions restrictions for combustion engine trucks in inner cities make urban distribution traffic an important starting segment for the switch to electromobility from MAN's point of view.

In addition to the small eTGL, MAN is of course also showing heavier electric vehicles in Hall 12: eTGS and eTGX can be equipped with three, four, five or six modularly combinable and variably positionable batteries, and their electric central drives have a choice of 333, 449 or 544 hp. The MAN range king is the eTGX 6x2 chassis presented at the IAA TRANSPORTATION, which has a usable capacity of 560 kWh with a seventh high-voltage battery. Depending on the driving style, this results in a range of around 650 kilometers. According to MAN, the additional battery power can also be used to operate auxiliary units, for example. According to the manufacturer, around 2,300 order inquiries and orders have already been received for eTGS and eTGX, including a recent major order from France for 100 vehicles.

MAN hTGX

In addition to the battery-electric trucks, the MAN hTGX, which was awarded the Truck Innovation Award by the International Truck of the Year Jury at the IAA TRANSPORTATION, is also likely to attract great interest. The prototype is equipped with a hydrogen combustion engine that generates 520 hp and 2,500 Newton meters from an incredible 16.8 liters of displacement. When it comes to hydrogen reservoirs, the Munich-based company is relying on 700-bar high-pressure tanks with a capacity of 56 kilograms. This should enable ranges of up to 600 kilometers, which corresponds to a consumption of around 9.33 kilograms of hydrogen per 100 kilometers. MAN itself describes hydrogen technology as a complementary zero-emission solution for special applications such as heavy transport or for areas of application in which charging infrastructure is difficult to implement. The hTGX is to be delivered in a small series of initially 200 vehicles from 2025 to customers in Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland and selected non-European countries. For much higher quantities, there is - of course - the conventional diesel drive, which MAN has completely revised for the TGS and TGX series. The new PowerLion drive train is based on the common engine platform of the TRATON GROUP. This D30 inline six-cylinder, which is new for MAN, is coupled to an automated 14-speed transmission. In combination with a new generation of brakes and fine aerodynamic measures, fuel consumption is reduced by up to four percent, according to MAN. » Hall 12, Stand C04
