Fans of the Swedish truck manufacturer Volvo Trucks can look forward to a variety of exciting vehicles and technologies at stand B01 in Hall 21. The highlight is, of course, the new European FH Aero. In addition, the VNL from the USA will also be making its European debut. Also at the start: the FM Low-Entry, the first Volvo truck to be available with battery-electric drive only.

Specifically, Volvo Trucks will be exhibiting the fuel cell test truck based on the FH, an FH16 Aero with XXL cabin, an FH Aero Electric, an FMX Electric, an FM with gas engine, an FM Low-Entry, an FE Electric and a fully equipped VNL 860 at the IAA TRANSPORTATION.

In terms of drivetrains, the D17 diesel engine with a displacement of 17 liters and up to 780 hp is in the spotlight. Volvo Trucks is also promoting the development of hydrogen combustion engines. But the Swedes also have a completely new drivetrain based on an electric axle for the models with hydrogen fuel cells and batteries.

Volvo Trucks says it will launch the new long-range version of the FH Electric with e-axle next year. “Our new electric flagship will be a great addition to our wide range of electric trucks and will enable zero tailpipe emissions transportation over longer distances. It will be a great solution for hauliers with a high annual mileage on their trucks and a strong commitment to reducing CO2 emissions,” explains Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.

In addition to its new electric axle, Volvo Trucks also credits the FH Electric Long-Range with more efficient batteries, a further developed battery management system and all-round high driveline efficiency.

The Swedes describe themselves as a global pioneer in the medium and heavy-duty electric truck segment. Volvo Trucks has a total of eight different models in its portfolio. This broad product range makes it possible to electrify distribution, construction site and waste management transport and soon also long-distance transport. According to Volvo Trucks, it has delivered more than 3,800 electric trucks to customers in 46 countries to date.

“The transportation sector is responsible for seven percent of global carbon emissions. Battery electric trucks are important tools for reducing the climate footprint. In addition to the important environmental benefits that electric trucks bring, they also offer truck drivers a much better working environment with much lower noise and vibration levels,” explains Roger Alm.

Volvo Trucks has set itself the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. To achieve this, the Swedes want to operate on three tracks – with battery electric trucks, fuel cell trucks and trucks with combustion engines that run on renewable fuels such as green hydrogen, biogas or HVO.
