DAF is ready for the future

Innovation: DAF is presenting a wide range of novelties in many products at the IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024 - among other things in terms of fuel efficiency, safety and driver comfort. In addition, there will be a number of new features for its new-generation XD, XF, XG and XG+ trucks.

All new DAF trucks are equipped with more efficient drives. In combination with aerodynamics and a range of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), fuel efficiency can be improved by up to ten percent. An additional three percent fuel saving can be achieved through the drivetrain and aerodynamic improvements.

The driveline achieves the improved efficiency through a new engine valve control, a coolant pump with dual drive and a coupled 2-cylinder air compressor. DAF has also revised the turbocharger and EGR systems. The new injectors are designed to ensure greater efficiency, reliability and durability.

Innovations in the SR1344 rear axle program include a new pinion design that promises greater strength and durability. In addition, it supports the highest PACCAR MX-13 rated power of 390 kW (530 hp). According to DAF, optimization of the transmission and the engine then leads to a seven percent lower engine speed at continuous speed (950 instead of 1,030 rpm), depending on the configuration. Several of the new generation trucks also meet the toll class 3 standards, which promises tax savings.

To further optimize the efficiency of the trucks, DAF uses the DAF Digital Vision camera system instead of conventional mirrors in the 4x2 and 6x2 versions. The standard equipment also includes tires with lower rolling resistance and Predictive Cruise Control, which, according to the manufacturer, reduces fuel consumption by six percent. The Aero package is also fitted as standard.

All new DAF trucks also come with a 10-year subscription to PACCAR Connect. The fleet management platform is designed to provide real-time information on the performance of the entire fleet, individual vehicles and drivers. The platform also enables over-the-air vehicle updates.

In terms of safety, DAF installs the Advanced Emergency Braking System, Drive-off Assist and DAF Side & Turn Assist ex works. Furthermore, a Lane Keeping Assist and an assistant that recognizes the speed limit can also be found in the vehicle ex works. In addition, an Event Data Recorder records images and data when the AEBS brake warning is activated. The Drowsiness Detection assistant also monitors the driver's attention.

In addition, DAF is also improving driving comfort. The updated version of the driveline is designed to ensure a lower noise level while driving. The transmission's new shift strategy is also intended to further improve driving behavior. In addition, complete route planning is possible via PACCAR Connect on the truck's secondary screen.

The DAF stand in Hall 21 at the IAA TRANSPORTATION will also showcase the entire range of electric vehicles for urban and regional transport as well as for long distances. In addition to the electric vehicles, the PACCAR MX engines, which are being prepared for operation with HVO biodiesel, and a hydrogen combustion engine, which DAF plans to launch in the coming years, will also be on display. There will also be an e-axle on display, which is currently under development.
